Composites IQ and NCN

In 2007, CompositesIQ formally merged with the UK National Composites Network, acting as the European focus for NCN activities. The existing CompositesIQ partners will take on a European Steering Group role. The current CompositesIQ subscription will not be continued but existing members will continue to be supported via the NCN Helpdesk and the combined knowledge of the CompositesIQ and NCN websites.

About compositesIQ

Compete globally

Created by a composites virtual institute project (ERIC) funded by the European Community under the “Competitive and Sustainable Growth” Programme, Composites IQ exists to help the European composites industry become increasingly competitive in a global arena. Our aim is to do this by making it easier for designers and manufacturers of composite products to find and exploit the best and most competitive composite technologies and techniques currently available – or find the best partners to develop new solutions.

Find the best composites technology solutions

There is a wealth of composites expertise in Europe’s universities, specialist research institutions and the increasing number of manufacturers who are making use of composite materials. Many of these are already part of the Composites IQ network and our aim is to grow our membership to include all the leading European composites organisations.

By joining Composites IQ, any company will be able to find the best “state of the art” composites technologies or find an appropriate partner to research and develop new solutions for composite materials manufacture or product design. To begin with, we are concentrating on the aerospace, automotive, civil engineering, marine and leisure applications. (These include transport, construction and wind energy). But, as our network grows, we will be looking to cover additional applications in areas such as agriculture, business equipment, electrical, telecoms and medicine.

Easy access

Composites IQ aims to offer easy access to the wealth of composites knowledge and expertise in Europe. Much of the composite production capacity in Europe is spread among a large number of small to medium sized companies (SMEs) who have limited resources for identifying and developing the latest technologies and techniques for composites manufacturing. In addition, large manufacturers wishing to identify the best research partners and potential suppliers for product development have not so far had a convenient source for such information. The Composites IQ web site and online tools offer both large and small organisations easy access to this knowledge at a price that is affordable according to their size.

Start and grow successful composites businesses

Finally, Composites IQ aims to encourage the commercialisation of composites innovation by supporting start-ups and expanding SMEs. Our network includes a range of European business support organisations including incubators, enterprise hubs and sector clusters. Together, we aim to provide valuable information about supportive accommodation providers, sources of finance and business support programmes. Where we don’t have existing local knowledge, we will seek to identify appropriate contacts for further information.
