Managing Director, MIRA Ltd

John Wood joined MIRA as Managing Director in August 1991. The early part of his career was in the Army. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery and then went on to read Engineering at Cambridge. After graduating, he returned to the Army and soon afterwards transferred to REME. Throughout his time in the Army he worked with mechanised forces and was involved in the development and trials of new tracked vehicles. He left the Army in 1987 to take up the appointment of Technical Director and Chief Engineer at RAC.

In 1993 he was Chairman of the Automobile Division of IMechE and John is currently a member of the Council of the Institution. He is a member of the SMMT Council and Executive, Motorsports Association and a Visiting Professor of Coventry University.

MIRA is an independent company providing design, engineering and consultancy services to vehicle manufacturers and to the automotive industry generally. Its expertise is predominantly in product engineering and testing; it employs some 400 people worldwide.
