Chief Executive, TWI Ltd

Bob is a graduate metallurgist of the University of Wales (Swansea) where he first became involved with welding through a Ph.D on the weldability of 5% nickel steel. He is a technologist, a business manager and a marketer.

Experience was gained with BOC and ESAB prior to joining TWI. He has worked in the UK, Sweden and the United States.

Bob joined TWI in 1991 after leaving The ESAB Group Inc. as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Company Integration, to take over the position of TWI’s Director, Business Development, responsible for the strategic direction of the business as a whole, corporate planning, business growth and quality management. Bob took over as Chief Executive with effect from 1 August 2004.

TWI is the premier independent technology support organisation dedicated to joining technology innovation and whole life integrity management. It is a company limited by guarantee with a turnover of £32m and staff of over 500. It has some 3,500 Industrial Members and is also a Professional Engineering Institution.

Bob is also a board member of a number of related organisations including The National Materials Technology Centre (NAMTEC), The National Composites Network (NCN) and The Association of Independent Research & Technology Organisations (AIRTO). He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of The Welding Institute and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
