The GKN centre will develop low-cost manufacturing techniques for composites via materials specification and automated production of sub-assemblies with the objective of reducing the cost of carbon fibre composite structures by 30%. Its objectives are:
- To develop competitive composite technologies
- To reduce the cost of current parts by reduced materials and manufacturing costs
- To offer benefits to the EDC community in Meriden
- Develop a state of the art facility for resin infusion technology
- Improve connectivity and efficiency in the GKN aerospace supply chain
- To develop protected IPR in composites manufacture
Its facilities include
- Torres Tape layer
- Double diaphragm machine
- Autoclave
- 5-axis machine
- NDT inspection equipment
- Spray bake booths
